Don’t Die with Drafts in Your Heart

Life is too short.
Life is too short.

Not in the cheesy “Live. Laugh. Love.” kind of way.

I mean really too short.

Too short to spend three hours overthinking a text you’ll never send.

Too short to rehearse conversations in the shower that never happen.

Too short to type a message… stare at it… delete it… and convince yourself, “Maybe another day.”

News flash.

“Another day” has terrible attendance.

Somewhere along the way, we started treating our feelings like limited-edition collectibles. We lock them away, keep them pristine, and hope people magically know what’s inside.

“I thought they knew.”

Nope.

They didn’t.

Tell people you love them.

Tell your friend you’re proud of them.

Tell your mom she’s your safe place.

Tell your dad you still remember the little things he taught you.

Tell your coworker they made your day easier.

Tell someone they’re beautiful.

Tell someone they inspired you.

Tell someone they hurt you.

And if they hurt you… don’t spend ten years writing Oscar-worthy speeches in your head. Have the conversation.

Because silence rarely solves anything.

It’s amazing how brave we are in imaginary conversations.

In my head? I’ve won every argument. I’ve delivered speeches so powerful they deserved a standing ovation. Everyone apologized. Everyone cried. Someone probably handed me an award.

Reality?

I answered, “I’m fine.”

The greatest actress of my generation.

We wait because we’re afraid.

Afraid of rejection.

Afraid of looking needy.

Afraid of hearing “no.”

Afraid they won’t feel the same.

But here’s what I’ve learned…

Rejection stings.

Regret settles in.

One fades.

The other redecorates your soul.

There are people who leave this world never knowing someone loved them.

People who never hear, “I’m proud of you.”

People who never know they changed someone’s life just by being themselves.

Not because no one felt those things.

Because no one said them.

Words are funny.

They’re completely free.

They weigh nothing.

They take seconds to speak.

Yet they can change the course of someone’s entire life.

A single “I believe in you.”

A simple “I’m sorry.”

An unexpected “Thank you.”

Or the sentence we all secretly hope someone says:

“I chose you.”

Life isn’t measured by the things we thought about saying.

It’s measured by the courage to actually say them.

So make the call.

Send the text.

Write the letter.

Give the compliment.

Ask the question.

Say “I love you.”

Say “I forgive you.”

Say “I miss you.”

Say “I’m leaving.”

Say “Stay.”

Because the biggest missed opportunities in life aren’t always jobs, promotions, or dream vacations.

Sometimes they’re five little words that never escaped our lips.

And if life teaches us anything, it’s this:

Flowers don’t do much good at funerals.

Give people their roses while they can still smell them.

Don’t leave this world with a heart full of unsent messages.

Don’t die with drafts in your heart.
